Gender Program

Studieren mit Kind mittelThe SFB1032 is based on the belief that every individual should be able to pursue a career according to her/his talents and inclinations irrespective of race, religion or gender.
Our goal is to actively support and promote female researchers in science and to overcome barriers that may exist particularly in combining family and research as well as in dual career constraints.

Despite the encouraging increase of newly appointed female professors at LMU and TUM in total numbers, there are significant differences in the proportion of women at different career stages. However, the comparatively high number of female graduate students can be seen as a first success of the gender equality policy during the last years, which succeeded in attracting considerably more female students than before. Still, there remains a significant bottleneck at the transition phase from dependent to independent research at the postdoc level, which often coincides with the time of starting a family.

The SFB1032 strives to further increase the proportion of female graduate and doctoral students. A higher percentage of female professors and group leaders in the future can be achieved only if adequate structures and support programs for female postdocs and junior group leaders are be provided.

Specific measures within the SFB1032 to improve gender equality can be found here...

Apart from that the SFB1032 encourages its members to come up with ideas and suggestions of new strategies and structures for a healthy work-life-balance. The aim is to shape a family-friendly and supportive atmosphere.
